The EV revolution is well underway, with more and more drivers making the switch to electric cars.

We’ve highlighted four important trends that suggest the time is right to upgrade.

1. Increasing range

One of the earliest concerns about electric cars was the relatively small distance they could travel between charges. However, like with all new technologies, car manufacturers have made significant improvements when it comes to driving range.

Take the pioneering Nissan Leaf as an example. The 2011 model had a very limited range of 73 miles, which has improved by over 200% to the current-day 2020 Leaf.

If electric car range only continues to improve, when is the best time to make the switch? As a general rule, it’s worth waiting a few years when a new technology enters the market. With several car manufacturers hitting their straps with electric cars, now is the ideal time to make the switch.

2. Growing charging network

New charging stations are popping up all over the city. There are now more than 40,000 public charge points in the UK across more than 15,000 locations, and hundreds of new ones are being installed month by month.

3. Expanding ULEZ

In October 2021 the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding and petrol hybrids and plug-in hybrids will no longer be exempt. The only cars that will be exempt are electric cars.

4. Soaring petrol prices

The COVID-19 pandemic caused petrol and diesel prices to fall to levels not seen since 2016 when there was an oversupply of oil. Since the lows of March/April 2020, prices have steadily risen to reach pre-pandemic prices.
